"FASCIST!" You hear this term thrown around many times in political debates, particularly by liberals, to insult their opponent, it is done so often that the word has become somewhat meaningless in our society, so much so that few know its true definition, and it's now time for you to be one of the few who understand what it truly is.
Fascism, as you might already know, is an ideology (like say, socialism or conservatism). Except what's different about this is that fascism incorporates multiple elements from across the right wing spectrum, but it's aspects have been cut down into Five Pillars, by the ideology's creator, Benito Mussolini:
1: A strong leader
The main characteristic of Fascism, for which it is most highly distinguished for, is its belief in a strong leader controlling the government, one who does not face elections (because fascists view elections as being rigged and pointless anyway, which could possibly be true) Examples of fascist leaders include Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini and Augusto Pinochet.
2: Militarism
One of the other core parts of Fascism is its notion of a strong military to protect its interests, and most especially from hostile countries.
3: Nationalism
Fascism's primary reason for its popularity during the 1920s-30s was the despairing need among the people to unite as an ethnic group, and fascism cured that worry, implementing nationalist policies, and entrusting the peoples' faith to a strong leader who could lead them through dangerous times.
4: Discipline
Another large factor of fascism is its focus on keeping discipline and loyalty towards the state, reducing crime rates at the same time. This can be done with the support on nationalism.
5: Religion
The last, and least known of these pillars is Religion, and it means that a nation should have a state religion along with the government. Such policies were highly successful, especially during times of war, where soldiers of fascist countries in the Second World War died bravely, with their religion motivating them through the darkest times, right to their deaths.
There you have it, the five pillars of Fascism. If one removes a pillar, then all the others will fail, which is why there are these five. If you identify closely with this ideology, then I can confirm to you that fascism, despite its advantages and disadvantages, is a full part of the alt-right, and a great ally in the conflict between the Left and us the Right.
This was more of an educational post than not, but I hate this confusion that fascism just means a lunatic trying to take over a country, that it's a very unique ideology incorporating many different elements which have been tested in real nations before and succeeded in its goals (uniting the people, rebuilding the economy, etc)
Thank you for reading this, and may you make the best of this day and the next.
